I think that the purpose was for people to realize how much invasive species are a problem, not only in New Zealand, but all around the world

I kind of agree with your claim, I kind of don't. The article wasn't actually about how it's bad in other countries.

I sort of agree with you but what about the other invasive species like stoats and possums, the stoats eat kiwis and the possums eat bird eggs and young birds. But I agree with you about the rodents.

I respectfully disagree with you because how do you know that some people in New Zealand don't like the invasive species. Even though most people don't like invasive species but some kids might like them because they don't know how much trouble the invasive species have caused. But I agree that the invasive species are a problem not only in New Zealand but all over the world.

The article was mainly about how the rats and other animals getting brought in into a country from another and harming the the native animals. They try using traps. " the government of New Zealand 🇳🇿 recommends several ways to get rid of pests, including traps." Also, the bird 🐦 kiwis they are fightless. So, they can get eaten easily . (See the photo on pg 5)

I like how you mentioned evidence from the pictures. But I think you should add some more evidence. By the way, it's flightless, not fightless.

Remember in the 1200? People were going to another country. They brought the pests with them. They used that sign so they wouldn't do the same thing as in the 1200

I agree with you too. On the picture in page 4 and 5 it has the sign that says to keep pests out. They are trying their best to make sure pests don't come along with people cause if they do it will be harder for them to get rid of. It is important that we all shouldn't bring pests many places we go.

I think the main idea of the article is that people are bringing in mammals that are eating native animals in New Zealand. Some examples of the invasive species are stoats, rats, possums, and some other animals. The population of these mammals are also increasing quickly. In the text, it says, "One of the reasons invasive mammal population grew so quickly is because New Zealand is home to almost no native mammals." This shows that the actual native species are in danger. Another reason that the native animals' numbers are decreasing is because a lot of them are birds, and also a lot of those birds are flightless. In the article, it says that, "They (rats) arrived on boats, along with human settlers in the 1200s. When they were introduced to the area, the rats ate native birds. Humans also brought other mammals, like stoats and possums." Stoats and possums also eat native bird eggs, and native bird themselves. New Zealand is currently working to get rid of these mammals to make sure the birds stay safe.

The pests (Rats, stoats, and possums) are killing the native birds. Some birds like the Kiwi bird is flightless. The entire archipelago is trying get rid of these pests, the prime minister's plan is to get rid of these pests by 2050. When the pests first came to New Zealand they were meant to eat other invasive creatures.

They are not exactly supposed to eat other animals. They need other animals so they can live they can eat other animals to. But that is there way of surviving

I think that the article is about how rats are becoming a problem in New Zealand or maybe a lot of other places. It is becoming a problem because when the rats were introduced to the area they ate the native birds. Rats were invasive species.

New eland is in need of getting read of pests like the rat, mouse, or the stoats. I say that this is then main idea because the stoats, and rats are eating the native species of N.Z. like their kiwi birds. They are called invasive species because they came into N.Z. from boats in the 1200's. They are saying that by 2050 they will have no more invasive species in N.Z. anymore. They even have a sigh that's for visitors that they can't bring cats, mice, and rats into there territories of New Zeland.

The main idea is that New Zealand is getting rid of some mammals because they are eating native animals and they don't have much native species. They have also gotten rid of some mammals already on their small islands and the population of the native animals are growing. Scientists think that they might succeed.

My claim Is how is that possible to get rats out because those animals are not controllable because I used to have rats in my cottage and we put traps all around the house and came back 1 month later and no rat they also are not controllable because those things breed a lot and we had rats for 6 years

My claim is that many of the invasive mammals are taking over of the New Zealand ecosystem. My reasoning to support this is because these invasive mammals are Killing the native species in New Zealand. And more than 25 million birds die because of these invasive mammals.

my claim is the people who live in new zealand are worried of what might happen to the natave birds because it will disrupt the ecosystem and those birds are very helpless, for example the kiwi has no wings. they are showing sympathy.

I think that New Zealand 🇳🇿 is taking out all the rats for a good purpose I mean if rats and possums are killing a countries native animals and national bird 🐦 the kiwi which is flightless or can't fly then I would also abandon those animals I mean I would get really pist of. But I also agree they did over exagurate about his because they made a gate that says ( bag check area please check your bags before going through this gate keep animals like cats, rats and possums away

I think the main idea is to tell the readers that the country, New Zealand 🇳🇿 is trying very hard to protect the animals that are native to their country, not the invasive species that can harm or kill the native animals.

I think that the author, Heather Price-Wright was trying to say that there are a lot of mammals in new Zealand and that bringing them there started a problem for the whole country. the mammals are eating the invasive species, and now that there are overpopulation of stoats, rats, mice, and cats, New Zealand will have to think of something big to stop them. In the book it read "the plan is the most ambitious conversation project attempted anywhere in the world" John Key the prime minister wrote in one statement. "but we believe if we all work together as a country, We can achieve it" James Russel a scientist in new zealand says I really do think it's possible, and it will require people working in every nook and corner of the country" New Zealand will work on this project and estimates all mammals will be gone by 2050.

I think the author was trying to say that the invasive species were affecting the other animals in New Zeland a lot. The author said that the rats, possums and stoats were eating the native animal's eggs and killing them. My second reason supporting this is that the population of the native animals was decreasing because the invasive species were killing them. It was easy for the invasive species because many of the native animals were flightless.
