3rd Graders,
This chapter in Social Studies we have explored different types of directions (intermediate, cardinal, and, the compass rose), maps (elevation, population density, annual rainfall, regions), and features of maps (latitude/longitude, colors, map keys, scales). Using what you have learned, complete the routine below. Connections: What connections can you make to what you have learned this chapter to something else you have learned? Challenges: What are you still wondering or confused about? Changes: How has your thinking changed about maps, directions, geography, etc.) Concepts: What are the most important ideas you have learned this chapter?

My connection is to a weather channel because is shows what the weather is going to be like and certein kinds of maps show what the weather is usally like.I am wondering which city has the most population? My thinking has changed by I used to think that there is only 1 kind of maps in the whole world. Now I think that there are many different kinds of maps. The most important idea I have learned this unit is there are lines of laditude and lines of longdutude.

Good question! The intermediate and cardinal directions make up the compass rose. :) They all work together.

I coonect it with toy toys because toys travel places like you get a shipping from a different contry I got a toy from a plasace that I forget . i am wondering what happend to the states I am also confused about SE,NE, SE,and NWEST .i learend that knowing your states is more important than playoing toys. states are all around the world and we can find out we can use mapes and different stuff.

I could connect this with maps on minecraft and on the news on the TV and on TV there is color coded just like map. I am wondering witch city in the USA has the most rainfall. that before I thought maps was just a weird piece of paper now i think maps are a tool for people to use when they are lost. The most important part is that you should always know what region you in because we have been learning about them.

My connection is that it's like leaning about states but really about maps.My challenge is that i'm getting confused with the directions like southeast, west, and so on.my thinking has changed by learning about geographers because now I know that geographers like to learn about nature, maps, and old things.I learned that maps help us in allot of things like telling directions, witch way we are going and more.

A connection to me about this chapter is when I see maps on T.V. when my grandparents watch adult shows. How did map-making get started? I used to think there were only map keys/map symbols. Now I know you can also use scales to help you too!
